  • Of course they do. Everybody knows the law of gravity: :No fair jumping up without coming back down." Bird houses sometimes have a magnetic perch so that when a larger species of bird tries to harass the occupants, its weight will exceed the pull of the magnet and it will fall off. The bird is then falling backwards and goes crazy trying to get going forward so it can fly.
  • They can fall. I've seen youngsters fall out of the nest before they figured out how to fly. That first time must be a hum-dinger for them. I remember watching a duck fly over a lake once, my friend put his fingers in his mouth and made a shrill whistle. To my surprise the duck lost consciousness and just dropped. straight down for a second. It regained itself in time to fly away before it would have hit the water.
