Why should I get my dog castrated?

People keep telling me to have him castrated but I think it is unreasonable. He doesn't wander, he doesn't pee anywhere I don't want him to, and he is 10. I mean when I get a better job I'd like to have him have a vasectomy but...why do people push castration?
