    Humans cannot digest cellulose. Their appendix, even when present, is too small. Cellulose (often called "roughage") passes straight through the human body,

    The appendix digests cellulose in herbivorous animals. In these animals, the appendix is a very large organ. In humans it is vestigial - it does not do much in digesting anything really, it's too small.
