American muscle... P.S. -- I thought you were asking something else before I read the category title...

I'm a huge fan of Ferrari, but that's because of Formula 1. I have to go with American muscle on this one for a few reasons: 1. The styling of many of the great Italian cars was done by Pinan Farina. 2. American models seem to have had longer production runs. Other than the Alfa Romeo Spyder, I can't think of any Italian models which had really long runs. 3. How could I possibly choose a Bertone or a Fiat over a Dodge Charger? =) 4. Classic american muscle is still on the road. Classic Italian cars are locked in museums. Cars are meant to be driven! 5. Reliability. Ford, Chevy, and Dodge simply have got to have a better record of service than Maserati, Alfa, Lancia and Fiat. And probably better than Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Detomaso. But I think the overall quality of cars in the past 5 years has improved dramatically on all-fronts.

Seriously? You give me a choice between a Mustang and a Murcielago, I know straight away which I'm choosing. And I'd cook spaghetti bolognese to celebrate my new car. Although they have cult status over the pond, the rest of the world isn't exactly enamoured with the muscle cars in the way that the Americans seem to be. They represent brute power, and achieve cult status in films such as Bullitt and the like, but in actual fact, the American engineers are a long way off the Europeans and the Japanese. Consider - the latest Firebird can be had with an absolutely massive 5.7 litre engine - but it only produces 325 BHP. The baby Lambo, the Gallardo, 'only' has a 5.0 litre engine, but it produces 500 BHP. Technically far, far superior. The Firebird is left in it's wake. Another problem with muscle cars (and large American cars in general) is that, as Jeremy Clarkson so often points out on Top Gear, the engineers seem never to have heard of corners. Handling wise, and suspension wise, they are left behind by most other manfacturers. Finally, you ask about styling. On this, the only serious rivals to the Italians are Aston Martin. I submit a pic of the afore mentioned cars, the Firebird and the Gallardo. The Firebird does look sleek, I agree, but if you saw the two side by side, it pales into insignificance. IMHO, there's absolutely no contest.

One word "Mustang".

American all the way.
-
Italians do it best!

No matter whether you are talking of cars or men here....it's Italians for me...I married one ( a man, not a car! LOL)

American muscle. Those Italian cars are just too touchy. I want something that will pound it out hard and not need thousands in matince just to keep running. And just look at the styling on the Mustang, Corvette, Viper, and Prowler. They're the whole package.

And this one has a hemi! varrooommmmmm

AMERICAN!!!!!!! Like I said up there.....Who wants to pay 14,000 to get a Lamborghini tuned up?

Italian, but you need to have the money to back it up. They cost to run and maintain. But if yo uwant one the ultimate for me would be the Bugatti Veyron. My god a road car with 2 - V8 engines
