Help answer this question below.
Drain coolant, T-stat housing is on rights side of engine, upper radiator hose comes from this housing. There will be 2 or three sensors also pluged into this housing, one for the ECM, one for the fan-stat, and maybe one for the temp. gauge if it is not shared. The bolts are all standard thread, I believe 3/8 course tread, but they are different length so pay attention to where the bolts come out from. Remove all hoses and unplug all sensors, label sensor wires if the connectors could be crossed. Remove the bolts and use a rubber mallet or dead blow to knock loose the housing. There will be some coolant left in the housing so be prepared for it. With the housing removed pull the old T-stats out clean the mating surfaces. I can't remember if there is 1 or 2 T-stats on this engine, installation if reverse of removal. Google search torque tables to find out what the torque should be on the bolts but I think 28-33 ft lbs should be about right. Replace bolts that are excessively corroded. Good luck, for the best step by step, go to your local Cummins dealer and buy the book.
