Additional Details
update; Im only goin to learn it to a medium level. I have all thes R/Stone discs and i hate to see them gathering dust when i could be using them. I allready know enough spanish (i live in chicago-more spanish people here than in Mexico city--really im not joking)
Mandarian is probably the best to learn for business and international things. I haven't learned it but study Kanji...I hate it. It does sound beautiful though. I hear that learning vocab can be easy, and that te grammar is nothign to really sweat over. But th more vocab you learn the more difficult it is.
Japanese is easier than Mandarian, in my opinion. There is a lot of repetition (with grammar) and due to の (possession)、わ (topic marker)、か、と (with, together), and に (in, at, goal) it's easy to pick out and words. I'm horrible at grammar and my japanese is rather sloppy but I find it fu to learn and defiantel worthwhile. Once yo get the grammar down pat it's easy. However you have two alphabets to learn (Katakana and Jiragana) which can take some time to learn. If you make it far enough in Japanese you will alwyas have a TINY bit of knowledge when it comes to Chiense characters due to the fact that you will have to larn Kanji (Chinese haracters wit Japanese meanings)
Korean is a fun to learn but for the most part rather useless. At least for now. Not many people are learning it, and most of the speakers are Korean. Because of that you will be a bit of a novelty. I find that with leanring Korean there is not a lot of connection to Japanese and Chinese words. You will find a shared sounds but compared ot Japanese there is less of a cross over.
The way I chose to learn the languaeges was based off of the culture that I ould find myself integrating intothe esiest. If you like how th cuture is, can deal with it, are okay with customs that may be compeltly different from your home country, like the music, etc than I'd go with that coutry/language. While it sounds a bit shallow, I find that love for the culture fuels passion for learnign te language.
Korean is surprisingly easy to learn. I learned how to read n write in about a week, the hard part is getting the accent right.
My guess is Korean. Best learned in bed where they love you long time :)
I am currently taking a Chinese coarse. While not into the writing part of it, its really pretty easy.
Mandarin is the langauage that people speak most around the world. I don't think it's easier just because there are thousands of characters for words and such. Also, words have tones so if you don't give it the right tone it could mean something different. I personally find that Japanese is easier out of the three. Hiragana and Katakana are easy to read and write and its easy to speak. Verbs are easy! Conjugating them is kept to a minimum. The only thing with Japanese is you can't mix speaking informally and formally. I mean, you can but it gets on peoples nerves. Japanese uses kanji (chinese characters) too. I only know like 30 Kanji Characters. Not to mention Japan is awesome! Korean would be my second choice as which one is easier. Hangul is easy to read and write and using Hanja (chinese characters) is optional but it is still used. You have to conjugate verbs its pretty easy. With Korean, you can mix talking formally and informally; people do it all the time. Pronouncing korean words is what gives me a hard time but I'm getting it. It's also fun to complain in Korean (no offense, I just like the way it sounds). Mandarin would be last on my list. I tried to learn Mandarin but it got difficult. Grammar wise, they are all similar following the SOV format. I'm learning Japanese right now and listen to Korean Pop music often and learning some Korean. By all means, if Mandarin is the language you want to learn, go right ahead, it's really fun and the culture is amazing. With either language, the cultures are all unique in their own way. Good Luck!
Sorry I'm sooo biased toward anything Japanese.
