  • Legacy crossovers are not well-known for having amazing stereo systems. Stock speakers, a double-din deck and minimal options leave the consumer with a stock radio that could use an upgrade. However, adjustments that can be made to the settings of the stock stereo system could help out tremendously and have you thinking twice about swapping out the system for a new one.

    Bass

The bass in the car is those beats you hear that sound like drums rattling the the entire car. Most people will leave this at zero or even go into the negatives, but a great setting for your Legacy would be at a 3. A 3 gives you a little bumping and hard hitting while not blowing out the speakers in the car. Stereo speakers are set up so that the rubber inside of the speaker (what you see when the speaker is by itself) reverberates whenever bass hits in a song. The higher the bass level, the harder it hits to make the rubber reverberate. Going above a 3 in a stock stereo and having the volume above a moderate level will surely blow out the speakers.

    Treble

Treble is what most people look for when trying to get a good sound. The treble setting inside a car will make the voices clearer during songs so that you can actually hear the lyrics of a song over the bass. This should be adjusted at the highest setting inside the car, a 6 for newer Legacys, to get the clearest sound possible. Adjustments to this setting have little effect on the speakers or radio, so feel free to adjust it any way you feel comfortable.

    Balance/Fader/Volume

The balance, fader and volume can give an individual the best sound in the vehicle. When the sound is turned up in the vehicle, electricity must reach all of the speakers, slightly downgrading the quality and noise of each speaker. If the driver wishes to have the best sound, the fader should be moved forward to concentrate on the front seat and the balance should be moved to the left to hit the driver's seat, giving her the best sound possible. Making these adjustments in each direction will give whichever person better sound. With the volume, keep it at anywhere from a low to a moderately high setting but never go higher than 3/4 of the way to the highest level as it will harm the speakers. These settings will give your Legacy crossover the best sound possible without hurting it in any way.
