Don't put germs on the bottle or in the whiskey! Use a shot glass as ruffryder_26 said, or even a regular glass!

A shot glass or a tall glass with a mixer. If you have to ask about drinking Bourbon from a bottle maybe you should not really drink it at all yet, it is not the mildest of drinks for an inexperienced drinker

1-2oz in a tumbler (5oz) glass, especially decent bourbon so you can enjoy the aroma. Shot glasses are for getting drunk.

Get a designated driver and visit your local boozer. Explain to the bartender that you are interested in bourbon and let them guide you (try to pick a slow night). Personally, I take my bourbon on the rocks. A splash of soda or water is superfluous. I like my Scotch neat.

in a brandy snifter, allowing one's hand-warmth to excite the bouquet (by evaporating some alchohol)
-
a triple shot size glass.

I prefer it straight up. It's good with ginger ale, too, but only if the bourbon is cheap.

Throw some ice in it, and sip away, thats a good start. If you like , you wan add some soda, or soda water.

With a straw

If you're an inexperienced drinker, I don't think bourbon is a good place to start. :) I prefer mine straight with just a little bit of ice.
