  • A male enhancer is anything designed to increase the size of the penis. It can come in a variety of forms, and although some methods are effective, not all are, and some can even be dangerous.

    Purpose

Men utilize male enhancement when they are unsatisfied with the size of their penis or, conversely, if there has been some damage to their penis.

    Types

Male enhancement comes in a variety of forms, including surgery, pills, penis pumps and manual techniques that can be accomplished at home, such as jelqing (squeezing blood to the head of the penis) or stretching. Male enhancement can also come in the form of cosmetic changes, such as trimming the pubic hair or losing weight to make the penis appear larger.

    Effectiveness

According to the Mayo Clinic, the only effective and approved method (by the Food and Drug Administration) of male enhancement is surgery. Unfortunately, surgical methods are typically only suggested when their use is medical in nature, as opposed to cosmetic.

    Warnings

Male enhancement can have a number of consequences. Jelqing can cause scarring, penis pumps can cause problems with erections, and pills or creams can potentially cause adverse reactions. According to urologist Kenneth Goldberg, pills containing a mix of herbs that are marketed as male enhancers cannot biologically cause an increase in penis size.

    Alternatives

If you feel you have a small penis and could benefit from male enhancement, talk to your doctor. Many times it's purely psychological, and alternatives include therapy, discussing the problem with your lover.
