<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Be Wary of Online Institutions
Many websites offer online degrees. While this seems like a convenient way to earn a degree, many of these websites are no more than degree mills. An article in Education Week reported that three Washington state residents admitted to selling "thousands of bogus academic degrees through scores of phony online universities, while raking in millions of dollars from customers."
On the Other: Viable Learning Options
Many well-known schools not only offer online classes but online degree programs as well. This allows learning institutions to reach an international student base that isn't possible through on-campus classes. This provides an educational option to a diverse population, including those in the military serving overseas.
Bottom Line
You can obtain a degree online, but take care in choosing a school and program. Make sure that the institution is accredited. Find out how many degrees the institution gives out each year. Be sure that it has academic requirements, and is not just awarding credits and degrees based on a person's life experience and past employment.
