<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Blood pressure medications may cause hair thinning
Beta Blockers, one of the four most commonly prescribed blood pressure medicines, can cause a small amount of hair loss and hair thinning, according to Pharmacist Shahina Begum RPh. According to blood-pressure-updates.com, the hair loss occurs mostly at the hairline, and at the front or top of the scalp.
On the Other: High blood pressure can be dangerous
With the onset of high blood pressure, mild symptoms may occur such as nausea, dizziness, impotence and blurred vision. Over time, if left untreated, high blood pressure can result in heart attack, loss of vision, kidney failure, peripheral arterial disease, aneurysms and stroke.
Bottom Line
As with any medication, discuss the risks and benefits with a professional. It is important to note that there are shampoos and supplements on the market to help combat hair loss, versus the much more serious consequences of untreated high blood pressure.
