How did this team come to be called the Toronto Raptors?

    After the NBA granted Toronto a franchise, a naming contest was held to determine the name. The final ten were: Beavers, Bobcats, Dragons, Grizzlies, Hogs, Raptors, Scorpions, T-Rex, Tarantulas, and Terriers. From there it was whittled down to the Raptors which was unveiled March 15,1994.
