Registered nursing is the most popular field within the medical profession, and there are currently more than 2.5 million registered nurses (RN). There are specific classes that a person must take in order to become an RN.
Schooling
There are three ways for an individual to obtain an RN degree. They can attend a four-year or two-year college, or receive certification from a hospital that specializes in nursing training.
General Education
Registered nurses must take core classes for their general education requirements. These courses include classes such as English, mathematics, and science.
Major
Major related coursework includes physiology, chemistry, and anatomy. Other courses that are needed to complete an RN degree include microbiology, nutrition, and psychology.
Clinical Experience
As part of the process of becoming an RN, students must complete clinical coursework, which gives them the opportunity to experience nursing in a hospital setting.
Accelerated Degrees
Some nursing programs offer accelerated courses that focus on the core classes that a student would need to become a RN. These classes are more intense, and they are condensed so that they can be completed in a shorter amount of time.
