  • Cats are natural mothers who have a no-fuss attitude about taking care of their young and giving birth. But sometimes, because of a cat's health or because of time constraints, it is necessary to induce labor. Thankfully, there are a few safe and effective ways to induce cats into labor.

    Exercise

Exercise is the best way to get your cat to go into labor. It is important to play with the animal to increase its activity, so the blood starts to flow to the vital areas that induce labor. This is a sure way to get a pregnant cat to give birth, and it is safe, healthy and easy.

    Red raspberries

Red raspberries work wonders for cats that are in labor. By sprinkling just a tiny amount on the cat's food everyday, you will induce her into labor faster. These natural fruits react well with the cat's blood flow and reproductive system, making it easier for the cat to give birth, bringing the day when she will be a mom ever closer.

    Comfortable Setting

Cats need to be comfortable to give birth--this cannot be underestimated. If a female cat does not have a place she finds safe and secluded, she will be too frightened to give birth. Therefore, it is necessary to create a safe spot for your cat. Set up a bed with pillows in a box in the basement, or create a makeshift bed out of old clothes in a closet. Whatever you do, it is imperative to make sure that the cat's comfort comes first. Only then will she feel ready to give birth.

    Taking her to a Vet

If you suspect that there is something wrong with your cat, or that she is sick, you can go to a veterinarian to induce labor with medication. However, first you should be sure that your cat is not in sound health. A sure way to do this is to take her temperature with a rectal thermometer. A normal temperature would be 100 to 102 degrees. A normal temperature for a cat ready to give birth is 98 to 99 degrees. If the cat's temperature is above 102, then that is a tell-tale sign that she is sick. The veterinarian can check her for illness and, if need be, induce labor by administering drugs like oxytocin.
