Walk-in bathtubs have become popular safety amenities. The tubs are designed to reduce the risk of falling while bathing for the elderly and those with physical conditions that make bathing difficult or a safety risk.
Shape
The sides of a walk-in tub are much higher than those of a traditional bathtub/shower combination to prevent water leakage from the top of the tub. Walk-in tubs frequently have a bench seat molded into the interior of the tub, providing a place to sit to prevent slipping while standing in the tub.
Construction
Walk-in tubs are usually made of acrylic sheet plastic or fiberglass gel coated materials. The with a gasket seal that prevents water leakage when the tub is filled.
