<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: The Recommended Daily Allowance
The recommended daily allowance for infants up to 3 years old is 40 to 80 milligrams. For children aged 4 to 6, it is 120 milligrams and for children aged 7 to 10, it is 270 to 400 milligrams daily. Magnesium can be taken in the form of dietary supplement pills or it can be found in foods.
On the Other: Precautions & Interactions
Magnesium oxide is one of the hardest forms of magnesium to digest and should only be taken by healthy children with no health conditions, specifically, kidney problems and heart arrhythmia. Also, it can have side effects and negative interactions with other medications, such as antibiotics and diabetic medications.
Bottom Line
Although children can take magnesium oxide, you need to check with a health care professional before giving any magnesium oxide or any other form of magnesium to your child. You want to make sure that it is taken under their care and direction.
