A 5-panel drug test is a test that typically uses urine or blood to screen for the use of illegal substances. It tests for five major drugs, and the results can be almost immediate or take up to a few days or weeks to process.
Test Sample
Usually a random urine sample is collected for a 5-panel drug screen. A blood sample may also be used. Rarely, saliva, sweat or hair may be used.
Types of Tests
The 5-panel drug test is now available for home use. This test may also be performed in a medical laboratory and, if being done for legal reasons, may be required to have legal paperwork to go with the sample.
Substances
The 5-panel drug test tests for marijuana, amphetamines and methamphetamines. It also is sensitive to cocaine and opiates, such as morphine and heroin.
Employment
This drug screen is used frequently for employment purposes to ensure that new employees are not using illegal drugs. Some employers also utilize random drug tests throughout the course of employment to ensure employees stay clean.
Legal
This test may also be used for legal reasons, such as to determine whether someone was driving under the influence. This test may also be used in child custody cases and athletic screening.
