Unlike any other mobile phone currently in use, Blackberry requires the usage of service books. Service books enable your smartphone to connect to the right location to provide the intended function.
Definition
A service book is a set of instructions for your Blackberry phone that enables it to control functions on the phone to access other functions. It contains a specific set of configurations needed for a specific action to be taken.
Function
Service books help to connect to specific networks including the main RIM network, to access the Internet for applications or to download files to your Blackberry. Every single application on the Blackberry, like email access, requires a separate service book to enable the function.
Browser
For your Blackberry browser to function correctly, a service book is necessary. Wireless capability, browsing configurations as well as bookmarking and memory capabilities require config service books.
Getting Service Books from Phone
If your service book for applications is lost, you must reinstall it on your phone. On your Blackberry, click "Options." Scroll down to "Host Routing Table" and then click "Register Now." This method will work in many cases, resending service books to your phone.
Using Web Client
If the above method fails, you can access your Blackberry Internet Server (BIS) page on your computer. Click the "Profile" link. You should see an option for "Send Service books"; clicking this link will successfully resend service books to your phone.
