Models need to maintain a lower weight than average people because of their profession, and they occasionally need to lose weight quickly. They do this through a variety of diet and exercise techniques.
Calorie Restriction
Models restrict their calorie intake each day to lose weight or maintain a low weight. A low-calorie intake for the average adult female is 1,200 calories per day. For the average male, 1,600 calories per day is considered a low-calorie intake.
Exercise
Models maintain rigorous exercise programs. Those who exercise on a consistent basis (at least three to four times per week for 60 minutes each session) tend to have faster resting metabolic rates than those who do not. A high metabolic rate causes energy (calories) to be expended by the body at a faster rate.
Water Intake
Models tend to avoid high-calorie liquids and drink plenty of water. Water helps rid the body of toxins and flushes excess salt. A diet high in sodium and low in water results in excess water weight being stored.
Cleansing Diets
Models often use cleansing diets to lose weight. Many contain colon-cleansing herbs and psyllium husks, along with a low-calorie intake including plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Cleansing diets last about three days.
