Federal Minimum Wage
The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007 rose the federal minimum wage to $7.25 per hour as of July 2009.
Missouri Minimum Wage
Missouri's minimum wage, which previously stood at $7.05 per hour, also increased to $7.25 per hour as of July 2009.
Who is Affected?
Certain retail and service businesses whose annual gross sales are less than $500,000 may be exempt from paying their employees the Missouri minimum wage.
Overtime Compensation
According to the Missouri Constitution, "overtime compensation must be paid at a rate not less than one and one-half times a covered employee's regular rate for all hours worked over 40 in a workweek."
Tipped Employees
If a employee relies on tips, his Missouri employer must ensure that his total compensation meets or exceeds the current minimum wage.
