LLC stands for limited liability company. One of the main reasons businesses decide to incorporate as an LLC is to limit the liability of its owners, as the name implies. The cost to form a limited liability company varies depending on the services you use and the state in which you register.
Filing Fee
Each state has its own fee requirements to set up an LLC. You can complete all necessary paperwork and pay your filing fees at the county clerk's office or with the secretary of state. In most cases, you'll pay at least $50 to set up your LLC. In some instances you may end up spending several hundred dollars to register your LLC, depending on what state you register in.
Legal Fees
If you choose to seek the counsel of an attorney, you may pay between $100 and $300 per hour to have an attorney prepare your paperwork, which adds to the overall cost..
On line Service
If you use an online service to file your paperwork, you may pay hundreds of additional dollars, depending on the services you select. Furthermore, you may pay an additional fee for expedited service which allows you to receive your paperwork faster.
Publication
In most states, you are required to run an advertisement in a local publication publicizing the formation of your LLC. The cost of running a newspaper ad can cost hundreds of dollars, depending on the circulation of the publication.
Other Considerations
Most states require an LLC to pay annual fees in order to stay in good standing. Annual fees may cost several hundred dollars. For example, if you form your LLC in Wyoming you'll have to pay a minimum annual fee of $50. However, for every million dollars of company assets held within the state, you pay an additional $200.
