  • A man's sluggish metabolism can lead to weight gain and a feeling of low self-esteem. It is possible for anyone to speed up his metabolism through a few lifestyle changes. These include adopting a diet that contains metabolism-boosting foods and a new exercise regimen.

    Diet

Whey protein is the most effective food for increasing your metabolism. It can be found in powder form and will help your body feel fuller longer and will speed up a slow metabolism. Other foods that can be eaten to speed up your metabolism and help you feel fuller longer include rolled oats, spinach, beans, turkey, chicken breasts, peanut butter and beans. All of these foods are also high in protein. For a good morning boost, including a metabolism boost, skip the coffee and instead drink a mug of green tea.

    How to Eat

Eating more often during the day is also a great way to boost your metabolism. Eat six to eight small meals throughout the day instead of three large meals, or the traditional breakfast, lunch and dinner. This will help curb any feelings of hunger and will cause your digestive system to constantly work, which helps speed up your metabolism.

    Water

Drink at least eight to 10 glasses of water every day. Drinking more water will also trick your stomach into feeling full.

    Sleep

Try to get at least seven to eight hours of sleep every night. It is also helpful to fall asleep and wake up every day at roughly the same time. This routine will help your body adjust its internal fat-burning mechanisms.

    Exercise

Try to perform at least 20 minutes of high-impact cardio exercise each day. This would include jogging, running or bicycling. Building your muscles will help you effectively burn more fat and speed up your metabolism.
