A touch of nature indoors makes houseplants a popular interior decoration; however, some plants do not get enough natural light inside. Artificial light can help plants grow and thrive indoors.
Spot-Grow Bulbs
Spot-grow bulbs, when used in clamp-on incandescent spotlights, shine on a single plant. The heat and light are beneficial to plants of all types as long as the bulbs are not too close to the plants.
Standard Fluorescents
Standard fluorescent horticultural tubes are very close to natural sunlight in light-spectrum quality but do not generate as much heat as incandescent lamps. They are also more energy-efficient and useful for newly established or sprouting plants.
Compact Fluorescents
Compact fluorescent lamps provide more concentrated light than standard fluorescents. Close to natural sunlight, they are a good choice for flowering and fruiting plants.
High-Output Fluorescents
High-output fluorescent lamps offer almost twice as much light as standard fluorescent bulbs. The light amount and quality benefit leafy plants, vegetables, herbs, orchids and succulents.
High-Intensity Discharge
High-intensity discharge lamps such as metal halide or high-pressure sodium bulbs provide 500 percent more light than an incandescent lamp using the same amount of electricity. Used to start seedlings, HID lamps also grow full-size garden plants and vegetables.
