According to May 2008 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the mean hourly wage for onshore oilfield workers known as roustabouts is $15.70, or $32,660 a year. Roustabouts are the industry's entry-level manual laborers. Oil industry workers with more experience and those performing such specialized tasks as drillers, welders and toolpushers can earn much more.
