  • Marijuana causes some degree of lung damage, but not to the degree of cigarettes. It temporarily alters brain cells, but doesn't kill them like alcohol. But if you smoke every day for a long period of time, if you quit, you feel sick for the first week or so.
  • you get hella hungry afterwords
  • your eyes get blood shot, and you stink!
  • It causes permanent synaptic remodeling and quite commonly destroys neurons by causing chemical imbalances which trigger the apoptotic pathways leading to cell suicide. It is also far more damaging to your lungs than tobacco as you do not filter it. It is however not as addicting as most other drugs that humans use, particularly the two with the most addictive potential - Nicotine and Alcohol.
  • You can't remember to .... um,.......
  • People have been mentioning the long term health effects, so I'll talk about the day to day effects. Pot makes you lazy. Not just while you are high, but it has a hangover affect that can last through the next day. It can really kill your initiative. Pot also distorts your sense of the passage of time, making it very dangerous for you to operate any sort of heavy machinery. Pot can, in some cases make you paranoid and anti-social. On the up side, it makes Gilligan's Island really really funny.
  • Depending on the dosage and other variables, users can have altered senses of smell, sight, taste and hearing, distorted senses of time, shifting sensory imagery, rapidly fluctuating emotions, fragmentary thoughts, impaired memory and dulling of attention. High doses of marijuana can result in hallucinations. Marijuana smokers experience the same health problems as tobacco smokers such as bronchitis, emphysema, and bronchial asthma. Extended use is associated with anti-motivational syndrome, lung damage, and risk to reproductive systems.
  • It affects brain chemistry, which can lead to paranoia, manic behaviour, panic attacks, spaced out 'high' behaviour etc. It impairs perception of space and time, judgement, is deterimental to co-ordination and reaction time, messes up short term memory. It's addictive (though not as much as alcohol, tobacco) and if you use it often enough you will become dependent on it, and get withdrawal symptoms if you stop. You'll also need increasing amounts to get the same effect, thus perpetuating it's effect on your brain. If used regularly, it will kill brain cells and permenantly alter the brain chemistry, thus ensuring your moods will become substantially changed - more paranoid, more spaced out, gaps in memory etc. Pot smoking can contraindictive to the treatments of mental illnesses - ie your brain is already messed up by the illness, adding in marijuana makes it so much worse and so much harder to treat. Physically, your heart rate increases leading to heart problems, eyes become bloodshot, you can have fertility problems. If smoked when pregnant, you're much more likely to give birth prematurely or to a baby with a low birthrate. It may also affect the baby's development and has been shown to bring on sexual maturity much more rapidly in adolescants. The risk to your heart is far greater than smoking tobacco - mainly because the 'affect' happens a lot more quickly. Besides, smoking anything messes up your lungs, leaving poisonous deposits behind and irritating/choking the airways.
  • - Munchies - Blood shot eyes - Cotton mouth - $ (unless you have a green thumb)
  • Getting arrested and losing your job. The other side effects seem petty.
  • Arrest, incarceration.
  • weight gain [munchies] empty pockets [weed, munchies] coughing redeyes smell
  • Cell suicide? ahahha.. oh man, can any of these people link to respectable scientific documentation? Weeds cheap. in canada where a 6pack is 12bucks, a 120$oz is way economical. "It is also far more damaging to your lungs than tobacco as you do not filter it." News flash, the filter doesn't do anything, and all that "puff 4 puff weed has 7x more tar" shit? ok, who smokes an equivalent amount of weed to a carton of cigarettes? that would be a noteworthy pot head. im lucky to smoke a 1/6 gram a session. latly iv been using a vaporizer so take your tar talk and shove it . "It is however not as addicting as most other drug" Marijuana(thc) is not physically addictive at all, It has the same addiction potential as coffee or falling into a daily routine. Weight gain? lol, says the "doctor," why not remove all that fatty shit from school vending machines and outlawing Macdonald's before you start blaming pot for your obesity. holy scapegoat In b.c, we get a slap on the wrist if we are possessing. I guess they dont wanna destroy out chances at working in the glorified United States... or just crossing the "unprotected" boarder. What if i wanna go shopping? oh, and weed doesn't cause brain damage.
  • Makes you hungry and cost money.

  • I am 28 years old. I have been smoking pot since i was 13. I experimented with many other drugs as well. I do agree that not smoking pot is better for your health than smoking pot. But the benefits of smoking weed outweighs the negatives. I recently tried going 90 days being high all day every day, smoking every few hours and I noticed that while making stupid little mistakes, I didn't kill anyone, or maim anyone, either while driving or operating heavy machinery. I did however have laspes in judgement, like sleeping with someone I hardley knew, not while on the drug, I knew I couldn't do it while high, so i stopped myself from getting high so I didn't have a voice telling me i was being stupid. If I would have been high it would have made my decision making more rational and I wouldn't have caught herpes. You've heard people who are stoned drive more cautiously! Well People who are stone LIVE more cautiously as well. Think about the "paranoia" effect. What is paranoia? It is doing things or thinking of ways to stay out of trouble. If MariJane was never Illegal, this whole paranoia issue would be out the window...You could just as easily say commiting crimes causes paranoia, killing people causes paranoia, cheating on your partner causes paranoia, BUT if weed was legal it never would have caused paranoia, that is just a stupid tactic spread from uninformed parents and governments. Yes my memory did have gaps, like someone would tell me "Don't forget about your appointment" and i'd be like "oh yea" but who knows if that has anything to do with smoking pot. I mean I never forgot to pick my daughter up at the mall before, or in the back seat of a car on a day where the temps are 100+ F. Were those parents stoned? I have never done anything so life threatening as I did when I was 1.Drunk 2.On Crack 3. On Acid I think people especially young people, just need to be better informed on marijuana. Take the D average high school student for example. "Jimmy" Likes to smoke weed before class. "Suzy" Hates weed. suzy is a straight A student, listens attentively and sits at the front of the class. Jimmy, on the other hand, is stoned, so he sits at the back of the class with the other stoners, trying to keep a low profile. Because of the "paranoia" associated with the stigma of weed use, Jimmy is forced not to speak up and ask question to statements he does not understand, for fear the teacher will see that his eyes are red or his speech is a little bit "off". And what happens if Jimmy tried to ask a question? Well he gets "Caught" for being high, sent to the pricipal's office and gets suspended. All while Suzy enjoys straight A's. It's not fair to Jimmy to send him out of the class, that while embarrassing it may be to get sent out of the classroom for being high, it would be much more embarrassing and eye-opening to see what effects weed has on you. If the teacher just realized Jimmy was high, and FORCED him to be a contributing member of the Class, Jimmy would realize what weed does to his concentration and speech coordination. But at least he would still be in a situation to learn. Not in the hallway with all the other stoner kids. Just my point of view, can anyone validate my response?
  • Well i feel like all things we do we are harming our bodies. There is no doubt bud doesn't do anything good for our bodies but does it do bad, probably not that much compared to the thousands of other things we do to ourselves.. Counting money and then biting your finger nails could harm you more or even eating fast food every day or spray painting something and breathing in the fumes.. So pot really isn't that bad for you.. Granted it illegal here in the states so to sit here telling the world how it is ok to toke up cause its not bad for you is a waste of breath.. it all means nothing.. So in the end it is bad for you because you are breaking the law and now have to deal with the consequences if you are caught. Speeding is a crime but we all do it and when i get caught i deserve the ticket i receive because i was breaking the law. Do i feel going 55 in a 45 is that bad for my health.. No.. but as an American i am required to follow the laws that are put into place by people that have earned the right to make them..Rather they are logical, fair, or to your benefit or not it doesnt matter.. Pot smoking may be fun and relaxing or maby you get an upper from it and u can laugh for once than do it in your own house away from the rest of the law abiding citizens of this great nation.. And for all those people in favor of smoking the reefer, maybe we dont smoke just because we dont want to go to jail or spend our money on a high. So in my opinon which is backed up by small amounts of research feel that pot smoking really is not bad when compared to the thousands of other bad habbits us Americans have. but i feel it does cause brain damage..why u ask.. is it because i did a study on monkeys and saw a deterioration of brain cells.. no.. but i promise all of you out there i can pick a frequent pot smoker from a crowd with one eye closed.. you all say there's no brain damage.. i beg to differ.. but who am i. i havnt done some scientific experiment to prove it.. I just she what written on the wall.. But hey smoke all you want if thats what you enjoy just dont say cops are unfair when the truth is they are just doing their job and enforcing a law (that may be stupid) but its a law... Peace my brothers
