  • Please explain one reason why not.
  • i guess yea...with makeup
  • They can say that they are a Goth but not be so obvious in wearing all black.
  • Yes, if they wear clothes from hot topic. Anyone can be gothic, it doesn't matter the color of your skin.
  • Of course! Anyone can be anything. And I've seen quite a few black people dress goth.
  • Well yes, but it just wouldn't be as obvious. Since Goths mostly dress in black, the contrast between skin and clothes is not as apparent with black people. The contrast in skin vs clothes is somewhat notable in most Goth people since most I have seen are white.
  • Yeah -- I mean, if being goth is listening to the music and dressing like one, certainly... I've known a black goth(ish) person, he succeeded in projecting the image, certainly.
  • I think anyone should be able to become a goth or whatever they want to become. Because they are white, black, asian, chinese etc etc doesnt mean that they should hold themselves back from who they want to be. (also, i think i get where your coming from, because goths usually have white white white skin applied with make-up, but again, a black goth, why not?)
  • of course they can, my cousin who is indian, is a goth. i would be if i could afford the clothes lol. and as long as you like the music too, i don't see why not?
  • why shouldnt he or she?
  • You'll find Goths usually care more about what's in your head than your color or the clothes you wear. (Though you may find you get more respect if you're original with your clothing and haven't bought it all at Hot Topic) As long as you show a reasonable amount of intelligence, Goths are open minded people and most (there's always someone making everyone else look bad) would NEVER care about the color of your skin.
  • UH....Yeah. can a white person become goth?
  • in my school a blavk goth is consider to be wrong, but i think any one could do
  • in my school a blavk goth is consider to be wrong, but i think any one could do
  • You mean can you draw up a racial boundary? No. You can be whatever you want, and if you don't like it, tuff titty says the kitty.
  • I DON'T SEE WHY NOT.
  • Yes why not if he or she wants to be one and likes the music whats the problem
  • I actually know someone on Livejournal who has an icon that says "So goth I was born black." I'd say definitely yes. Caucasians are definitely the majority in the goth community, but it's not by any sort of deliberate exclusion. Interest in (what I think is) really awesome music is the biggest determiner of whether or not someone is goth. Total inability to dance well is usually another sign. :-P
  • I have many black "gothic" friends.
  • sure, just like anyone else. i'm into punk and metal myself and most of my friends and i love it when we see non white faces into the same music we are ;) bad brains is probably the most famous black punk band, but there's been a quite a few.
  • can a white girl be named Krisha
  • Yeah, I've known several who managed it very successfully.
  • Tintin from The Crow has proven that black folks make some fine Goths. And even if it wasn't for him, I've seen them before. Sometimes it works even better than a white Goth, because it always seems that a black person has super shiny eye whites because of their dark skin, so it achieves an impressive allure when they dress all Goth. It seems more natural, and if there's anything wrong with Goths, it's how it always looks so fake. They can look extremely sexy or goddamn scary, which are two high points that most Goths try to achieve.
  • So far as I know Gothica is a free belief, anyone can involve themselves in it
  • Yup it's a state of mind not a fashion statement =)
  • sure... i know some personally... here's a picture of some (i think) http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a150/tuesdayweld/blackgoth.jpg
  • I don't see why not.
  • no you choose what you want to be in life a subculture has no laws there are no legal laws to say what people can or cannot become. religions and political parties are different how ever.
  • I was/am and I'm goth,I guess, and I'm black. I don't like to say I am cuz heaven forbid I leave that house in a yellow shirt and blue jeans one day and I upset some people.i guess I dress the part 70% anyway it's a "state of mind" it tends to span between the romanticism of the 18th century and nihilism depending on your level of angnst and what drugs your on (google it)
  • Sure they can! I am a black Goth and it's what attracted my husband to me. Of course a lot of people don't think I should be one because, well, I'm not white, lol, but it's not about skin color it's about self expression! I was a Goth before I even knew what they were! So, be who/what you want to be :)> I also love Vampires :)
  • I read all your answers and this makes me feel a lot better. I can be goth or emo if I want.
  • Yes I suppose so, but some of the goth stuff like very dark eyeliners and so on won't be very visible on someone with a very dark skin, so the black goth community might need to work out some different symbology.
  • Yes, anybody from any race can call themselves and be considered goth. Of course appropriate goth clothing and/or make-up would be in order.
