Do some research (or ask your doctor) and find a sensible diet where you eat the right foods - foods with nutritional value, but not a lot of fats and sugars; also cleansing foods such as fruits and fiber; and the caloric intake should be just enough to support your daily needs without excess to turn to fat. Second, stay active - do some aerobic exercises such as running, jogging or bicycling. My favorite is the elliptical machine - it's is comfortable and does a nice job. Another important step that a lot of people overlook is to do some exercises to develop muscle tone. If you can convert fat tissue to muscle tissue, you will have a nicely toned appearance and also muscle tissue helps you burn off calories faster than fat tissue, so the process is a win-win situation! A good muscle toning exercise is a set of dumbells of different weights. There are dumbell exercises for every part of the body - look for a good book that shows you all these exercises. You could also use some gym equipment such as the Bowflew, weight stack machine or Total-Gym, but the dumbells are simple and effective. Don't forget about good grooming - clean skin, not too oily or dry, manicured nails, shaving and waxing, etc.
