I had the same problem with my ps2 memory card and I had no clue what to do with it either, so instead of trying to fix it, I just took it down to gamestop (video game store if you dont know) and got store credit, which was $13 bucks and bought their 16mb for $19. So there, just take it to a video game store and get store credit and get a memory card twice the size for 6 maybe 7 bucks more, and it's brand spankin' new.

You need to format the card, I use the "MCKiller" program to zero out the card and reformat. This might not work on your unit unless you have the ability to boot homebrew apps. The more crude way of blanking the card would be to unscrew the bottom of the memory card and put a tiny refrigerator magnet on the microchip for a second or two (important – do not keep on chip for more then a second or two); this will blank the memory card but could damage the card (this method is not really recommended). The simplest answer to your question is you need to format the card to remedy the problem.

You can also use either: Datel Memory Manager / Memory Manager Plus (both available with or without Action Replay) With memory manager, go to the screen where you select the device to browse, highlight the memory card and hold L1+L2+R1+R2+Square. It will ask if you wish to format the memory card. With memory manager plus, holding Square is not needed (I think).

My kids had the same problem I turned the unit on without a game in the console, from there I was able to work my way through (it guides you) to the memory card it shows you the corrupt data and gives you the option to delete it I deleted only the corrupted data now the card works fine

My kids had Lego Star Wars II and they turned the game off during the save and the data was corrupted. I did the same thing as frost1229 suggested and it worked fine. From frost1229: Turned the unit on without a game in the console, from there I was able to work my way through (it guides you) to the memory card it shows you the corrupt data and gives you the option to delete it I deleted only the corrupted data now the card works fine
