You may be experiencing what is known as a "plateau." My advice: Stay with your diet plan, increase physical activity and your weight loss will continue... though probably not at the original pace.

The words "fad diet" should immediately ring alarm bells for you. If you are eating mainly grapefruit you are denying your body of essential nutrients that you need to survive. The weight you have lost is probably water, and if you continue this diet you will end up losing muscle (which will be worse for you in the long run as muscle burns more energy than fat does). I would stop the grapefruit diet now (and consider the loss a jump-start to a healthier diet) and start eating a variety of fresh foods and combining that with exercise. Fad diets are proven to not work, and most people gain back the lost weight with some "bonus" extra weight gained in the bargain, and you will also mess up your metabolism. EDIT I'm sorry you did not like my answer - but it is the painful truth! I'm a trained nutritionist and am not going to pander to your ego in order to make you feel good when you could be doing yourself harm. Sorry again, and good luck in your endeavours :)

Response to _tani1: In the best interest of others that may read your comment to my question, the "grapefruit diet" is not eating "mainly grapefruit" as you say nor am I losing water weight, due to the 40 oz+ that I drink daily. It simply involves eating 1/2 a grapefruit after each balanced meal. And, contrary to your assumption, I am 'required' to each salads and/or green vegetables plus other 'acceptable' vegetables in order for the diet to work at every meal. The only thing missing from this diet is processed sugar and carbs from starchs. I hope you will spend more time learning your craft, being that you are a self-claimed "trained nutritionist". I think you are doing your clients a great disservice by your lack of knowledge and condescending attitude.

IamViolet - My apologies... there are many types of "grapefruit diet" some which truly do involve eating not much other than grapefruit. I was not aware of the exact circumstances of your diet. I am glad you have clarified as that makes it clear that my answer was not appropriate, and it is important that people do see that. I am more than happy to learn more. Unfortunately the character limit on questions makes it hard to be as specific as what you are in your response. Lucky for us both being trained versus practicing in my trade are two different things, and I do not practice on clients, rather I work in the food industry. I apologise for my attitude, but you would be stunned how many people are just not understanding that weight loss is hard work. I do still stand by my statement regarding fad diets being trouble and not working, as that is undeniable from the research that has been done on fad diets in the past few years. After reading your answer I would have to agree with the first answer you received about you being in a plateau, it usually happens when on a diet. Good luck again (I was sincere in my wishes for your good luck in my initial response - I was not meaning to sound sarcastic).
