Most of them are in an always on mode. So when you think that you turn it on there is not a long warm period. I have been told, but not for sure, that it takes less engery to keep them in the always on mode than it does to warm them up.

What type of screen is it... HD 1080p?

its probably some type of stand by mode. all of my tv's have a switch on the back to turn them completely off.
