Probably because both of these scientific fields are drawn on heavily by the petro-chemical industry. Geologists make the most money helping petroleum companies find potential new drill sites. Chemists...the same. If your employer is threatened by Global Warming (any gasoline/fuel oil producer), you are going to be biased. That is why science requires objectivity.

In the case of geologists, I would say that it is because we have a better handle on Earth's history. We don't limit ourselves to just that last million years or so. Rather we look at all 4.6 billion years of our planet's history. This tends to put the recent variations in climate in a broader context. Thus, we don't get so worked up over a few degrees of warming during the an interglacial period of an ice age because we realize that the temperatures that Earth is currently experiencing are unusually cool when compared its total history.

Perhaps we could move these deniers to sea level islands and take away their boat until they come to their senses.
