i'd be surprised if you didn't need one to get on the boat. it should have been in the booking info - did you read it?? in my view it's always best to have a passport on hand just in case.

You need to hurry up and get one. Passports are REQUIRED to leave the country (including the Caribean and Canada). Go to the Dept of State website (www.state.gov/). You may need to go to the Passport Office in Miami or Atlanta (depending which is closer to you) to get it in less than a week. Hurry!

ok so i kinda figured it out on my own, big hint rushmypassport is a scam. So anyway, had to make an appt. in Boston-i live in maine- at 10:30AM. so have to miss work on monday to get a same day passport-but oh well..needless to say it would have been cheaper had I realized how passports really worked and they aren't like replaceing a birth certificate or something. Oh well, now I do...

Technically, yes. You could get by with a passport card, as well -- they're no good for air travel, but they're good for car/boat to mexico, canada, and the carribbean. And they're cheaper than passports. BUT Love and I got our passports for our cruise to mexico, and not once did anyone actually ask us for it, not when we got on, not when we got on/off in mexico, not when we got off... they did ask for the number of our passport on our customs declaration, but no-one ever asked to see it. Obviously your mileage may vary and that's not a good thing to depend on. just a story though. :)
