It's about time. The beliefs of most Christians havn't been in line with the bible for a very very long time. At lest when this is finished they'll have something to point to that actually reflects what their opinions are.

I don't see it as an abomination -- anybody is free to do their own translation or rewriting or reinterpreting of any religious text they please, they really aren't sacred in the first place, and adding your own spin doesn't make them any less sacred. It really doesn't matter what the old books say: the process of developing wisdom and compassion and courage and vision -- which is the legitimate business of spirituality -- has remained unchanged since the dawn of man: it involves self-understanding and self-restraint. No amount of pontifications by others does more than contribute slightly or inhibit slightly -- the real job lies with the individual learning to listen to the whole. I think it's clear this effort doesn't offer much of a resource for that, it's just the expression of some obsession.

Such a sorely needed effort. King James had a well established liberal bias. :)

Can I assume that this is the Stephen Colbert Version of the Bible? (I keed! I keed!) . And your question was in error they are reTRANSLATING not rewriting the Bible. And the article is reflective of standard, and generally accepted translation techniques. I find nothing to criticize there. . But of course I hope that everyone understands that the word "liberal" in this context - and in the referenced article - means "Theologically Liberal" not "Politically Liberal". To re-translate the Bible to reflect ANY predetermined political stance would indeed be an abomination be it liberal or conservative. . I am a Christian and I don't support any translation that deviates from the original meaning of the best manuscripts - period. . Finally, I don't support the use of the word "abomination" in your question. I felt that revealed a certain bias as well as a harsh judgment that isn't merited here. And your use of the word "rewriting" was inaccurate and misleading. It doesn't reflect well. . .

Because of course, these people know so much better than JESUS.
