  • Christians can save or convert nobody, that is God's work. I suppose atheists are persuaded by reason.
  • Both at times. Christians want to see other people come to know God. Understandable. Atheists want to help people who believe in a God to stop deluding themselves. Also understandable. :)
  • Both at times, though Christians probably spend more time trying to "save" others. Christians have a spiritual imperative, and are commanded to share the word of Jesus. Many do it also out of a desire to bring others to know the happiness and comfort that they feel from following Jesus. I converted a few people during my time as a Christian, and I wonder now what kind of damage I have done. Most of the atheists I know don't spend any time at all speaking about their beliefs, let alone trying to convert anyone. The rest (including myself) have a different imperative, beyond the "stop deluding yourselves" argument (which I don't use, as I really couldn't care less who chooses to delude themselves). I'm quite simply afraid of religious people. Not in a "scared of a spider" sense, but in a more indirect way. They have an ambiguous moral foundation that doesn't require that they consider the consequences of their actions, and that inspires a comfort in them so great that their immoral behavior often doesn't cause them guilt. Religion (once a private belief held within the circles of a person's family and friends) is now out in the open, infecting our society, government, and well-being. It states furthermore that it's authority comes from a supernatural realm, and cannot be questioned. I can't "vote them out" when they overstep my rights, and I can't appeal to them rationally, as their decisions are not open to discussion. More and more people like me are stepping out from that group of atheists who don't talk about their beliefs and are standing up against them. Christians may be trying to save the souls of atheists, but atheists are trying to save the rights and well being of humanity itself. If I also manage to lift from a Christian the burden of hate, judgement, arrogance, and servitude to boot, so much the better! ;-)
  • I think it's incredibly presumptuous to think you can "save" anyone. Who am I to decide who needs saving and why and from what? I am an atheist. I am a passionate supporter of each person's right to "save" him/herself from whatever perceived consuming issues they may have. It certainly isn't MY right to point those out or to impose my own values on another adult.
  • Broad judgement of both parties. All a christian can do is share what they have found. Spread the word. The only One capable of saving anyone is God. For what reason would one need to be "saved?" anyway? Atheists perhaps have had no reason to be saved yet so the beauty of using their brains and questioning things by concrete evidence is part of the reality of free will. Quite respectable. The truth shall be presented to everyone far and wide. And then the end will come. Suffering will be no more. You do not have to believe that. But hey, airplanes can fly. do you believe that? I have told you no lie.
  • I don't think anyone's trying to save anyone but themselves, really.
  • As an atheist, I do not try to convert Christians, I do not try to "save" them because I believe we all are going to endure the same fate, there is no "saving" from the inevitable. I believe that Christians will attempt to "save" me, as this is what their bible tells them to do. It is annoying, yes, but I do understand they are doing exactly the same thing as I am.
  • I wish they would just kiss and make up, really.
  • I`m trying to save myself......
