I guess if I had the money to travel somewhere, that wouldn't be my first choice, just because there are other places I'd rather visit.

I think Bogota is more comparable to New York City in how clean of a city it is, but in many ways, it is more beautiful. I've visited Colombia once, and I'll be moving there. It's an amazingly diverse country in every aspect, and is SO beautiful and affordable if you find a well-paying job.

I would definitely visit Colombia place like Medellin, Santa Marta, San Andres, and Cartagena are frequently visited from people around the world. Bogota is also a lovely city, but if you are looking for perfect weather, hospitable people, and a great time overall I recommend the places mentioned above!

My in-laws lived in a small town in Columbia a few years ago. They said it was completely charming and really loved it. But then one of them got a parasite from eating the produce and had to come home for treatment. Their health was never the same. The same thing happened to a dear friend who moved to Dominican Republic. She still doesn't feel well after 7 years home and trying to get her health back. I think that you have to be really careful when moving to tropical areas if you aren't used to that sort of area, that sort of vegetation and weather. I would have to consider it very carefully and do my research.

No, but not because there is anything 'wrong' with it...I just have other countries I would prefer to visit. I really don't have much desire to see South America. That's just me.

Yes, I would. I visited in 1996 while I was in the Navy. The county is beautiful and there is a lot of historic background having to do with the Inca and Spanish. Also, they are a major exporter of some of the highest quality emeralds in the world. I bought my wife a couple while I was there and would do so again. Hot and humid as all get-out though, what with it being along the equator and all.
