some say the veil between worlds is thinning.... or jumping on the bandwagon ghost hunting is easy big bucks right now

People wanted to know the unknown in the world.

It is hard to say whether the culture feeds the movies and books or the other way round. Anyway, it seems even those who have lost any connection with religion or faith still need "something" to help them understand the very rapidly changing world they live in. My theory is that horror movies are sort of outlets for the subconscious fears many have that they cannot understand or express.

People are opening their minds to possibilities they never thought possible before.

Are you sure you have the right link? I could swear you're saying Twilight vampires are part of the supernatural.... You know...vampires that "twinkle" (Oh, I'm sorry..."SPARKLE") in the daylight. Vampires that aren't harmed at all by sunlight. Vampires that aren't harmed in any way by religious symbology (must be Atheist vampires, huh?). Vampires that have no pointy teeth. Vampires that are "vegetarian" (don't drink human blood). I'm STILL trying to figure out where these vampires fit in mythology as supernatural beings. So far, all I'm getting as "supernatural" is a "vampire" who has remained a virgin, and yet is over a century old. :):):)

Everyone is looking for ways to embrace the unkwnown and worship some form of the sacred even in this twisted way.

This is a typical trend. When reality gets so bad, people tend to look for supernatural answers because there don't seem to be real world answers. Did you ever notice that in times of prosperity, religion loses its influence?

Seems to to me to be a cyclical thing. Every now and then ever since the fifties and probably before that, zombies, vampires, ghosts, serial killers and other assorted abominable monsters seem to periodically get their spotlight. From 2000 to recently it was deformed psychos and ghostly phenomena, for example. At least in the horror genre. I really don't consider Twilight to be anywhere near horror or the supernatural, even if it deals with "vampires". It doesn't cater to the general interest in the supernatural, rather than it being today's new hot thing for teenagers, which is always happening at some point or another, through some form or another, and catering instead to mainstream appeal instead of concentrating on the aspect which it borrows to illustrate its orientation.
