Medical technology has improved to the point that cancer is among the few life-threatening diseases left. So that's why you hear about it killing people so much.

I feel the same as you do. My personal opinion is that it is because of all the chemicals that are put in our food and in our household products, shampoos, toothpastes, virtually everything in the home. Causes immune system imbalances. Not only cancer -- there seems to be a spate of a lot of new autoimmune deficiency illnesses. Just a personal opinion and thumbsuck. No scientific proof.

Not really and I'm undergoing treatment for it at the moment. I think what it really is, is that the screening process is getting more effective. Colorectal cancer is a good example. It's more common than was previously believed because not all that many died from it. Cause of death was usually either some other cancer that had spread from the original site ( and is faster) or the patient died from natural causes first...even though the cancer was present.

no, what im really scared of is the H1N1 flu. I mean its a worldwide epidemic and everyone in school is getting sick a little to often, and now that were getting into the cold season im worried people who really have it are going to mistake it for just a regular flu and then were all going to die. now thats really scary.!

What you are seeing is partly an increase in diagnosis, but mostly because lots of other diseases like polio, smallpox and TB don't kill people anymore. We are even much better at dealing with heart problems. Once these have been stopped, the largest problems left is cancer.

Yes I do and I keep wondering why more advances haven't been made considering the millions and millions of dollars which are raised all over the world and donated for the fight against cancer.

In a small town I used to live in, Ag territory, there were wayyyyyy too many cases of Cancer, MS, Parkinsons and Leukemia.

There are a couple of reasons for this: 1) medical technology has advanced to the point where detection of cancer is much easier than in the past. This results in identified cases of cancer and, when someone dies of it, proper causes of death. This is the main reason for the upswing. 2) consumption of and exposure to carcinogens is, I believe, increasing and we are seeing the results of long term exposure. So, no, I do not think it is an epidemic. If #2 above were the main reason, I would say "yes" but I do not think that is the main cause.
