I am thankful for the fact that I was not laid off this year as so many others have been. I am thankful for the opportunity that I have to get a college education at my age. I am thankful that my children are good, healthy and happy kids. And I am thankful that I have good friends that have been there for me in good times and bad.

I'm thankful that half of my Christmas shopping is DONE. I actually do enjoy the Christmas shopping a bit, despite the added stress, though I wish that at least the adults on my list would be content with me sending money overseas, on their behalf, to go towards sustainable development in disease and war-ravaged countries where the money is truly needed. Oh heck, even the kids could do with a gift or 2 less & then I could send the money saved to refugees like who my husband visited in Kenya or Uganda this past February... (Sorry Cotton, guess this is turning into "Triss' Rant," after all! lol!) To add to my answer here, Our family actually has given gifts to each other that are from the World Vision gift giving catalogue, gifts like giving a goat to a family in an African or mid-Asian country, then giving the family member the Christmas card that says it was given on their behalf. Sometimes, in the 'family gift exchange,' I've given that gift and chosen it for myself so that I won't get junk I don't need and others elsewhere can benefit with what they DO need. This year, in early November, our eldest daughter in her teens raised $320 among her friends and family to do just that --- to purchase 4 hens, 2 roosters, antibiotics for 10 children, 3 blankets, monies to help rescue a child soldier and monies to help a sexually abused child. I'm proud of her! And I'm so very thankful that she's my daughter... To see the World Vision Christmas Gift Catalogue, http://www.worldvision.ca
