  • And how do you explain Adam's apple? Evolution? ;-)
  • All religional beliefs's sources are among Summerian legends. I think so Adam & Eve (and the third figure Lillith) story tells about woman's devalorizing. Think it! Eden... Tree... A man... A woman... Both naked... devil. Devil talks to Eve (for now forget the "fruit" symbol please). Eve gets agree with Devil. Godfather foams and kick them away. REMEMBER WHAT GOD SAYS! "I will increase your pain. You will breed in aches. Your husband will be hegemon on you." Adam and Eve make some sin but Eve's punishment is unfair. WHAT WAS THE "FRUIT"? It's wass woman's revolt!
  • The sin was disobedience.
  • No I don't take the story literally. I think it's metaphorical. The fruit represents wisdom and "the knowledge of good and evil". In the story the devil tempts Eve to eat the fruit and to become wise and all knowing like God. Eve's egotistical and prideful desire to become godlike was the first sin. I don't think it has anything to do with sex. Christians are supposed to believe that God created/ designed our bodies and therefore also our sexual functions. So I don't understand why many Christians think sex is intrinsically sinful.
  • Why would something God made and said was very good then suddenly call sex bad or a sin? Sex had nothing to do with the original sin. The sin was disobediance. What fruit was the forbidden fruit really makes no difference, God said not to eat of the fruit of that particular tree be it an apple, pear or kiwi or anything else. The apple was probably chosen as it is a common fruit known to almost all people could associate with. The important fact was Adam and Eve disobeyed God's command not to eat of the fruit then blaimed others rather than admit they did wrong.
  • I've never taken the story literally, but I've never considered sex to be the "forbidden fruit". I always thought the analogy represented moving away from unconditional acceptance (love) to embracing judgement (seeing one thing as more acceptable than another). You've given something to think about.
  • [God's Facebook News Feed] God is just sittin' around bein omnipotent..msn? God remembered noones here. Nevermind. God is boooooooooored lol. You created a new group: Light (Common Interest-Religion & Spirituality) You created a new group: Earth (Georgraphy-Places) You created a new group: Garden Of Eden (Geography-Neighbourhoods) You and Adam are now friends. Adam wrote on your wall: "Hiiiii, hows it hangin?" Adam wrote on your wall: "Kind of lonely. Maybe give me a use for this thing between my legs?" You & Adam are now friends with Eve. Adam & Eve are in a relationship. Adam & Eve joined the group: Garden Of Eden You wrote a note: "Rules for the garden No shirt. No shoes. No sin. No problem. Stay away from the apples, seriously." You created a new album: Fake Dinosaur Fossils(500 photos) Adam commented: Haha, yeah right. like anyone will believe these stupid things existed. The Serpent sent Eve a gift: "A nice juicy apple, ENJOY!" Adam & Eve added the application: Shame Adam & Eve left the group: Garden Of Eden Adam & Eve's relationship is now complicated.
  • It's a an allegory, but not for sex. First, you can't separate out "fruit" - it has to be left in the whole phrase: "to eat of the fruit of the tree of the DECIDING of what's good for man and what's not good for man." (That's what the Hebrew actually means.) For the first chapter of Genesis God goes around declaring, "This is good for man ... this is good for man ... this is not good for man ... this is very good for man." This is a power/capacity and authority God expressly denies man: it belongs to God alone. Adam decides he wants this power of God, but he's not cut out for it, for the nature of man is to continually rewrite the rules to indulge his own appetites: "I'm going to decide what's good for me ... and I really like cake so I decree it's good for me to eat cake every meal, every day." Literary analysis of the Pentateuch makes it clear that it's all an analog for the Tablets of the Law placed in the Holy of Holies in the center of the camp of Israel, introducing a point Moses makes throughout the rest of the Pentateuch: "Don't tinker with God's Law. You're not qualified!" Also, "Garden" in Hebrew means "a place protected by a hedge or a wall", and the Law and the Covenant is continually referred to as the wall around Israel. There is also a clear association between the Garden and the Promised Land. The Torah is also repeatedly described as being "laws of life". The blessings of obedience are essentially the same for both: bountiful crops, abundant food, protection from dangerous animals, and most of all, continuous fellowship with God. And the penalty for national rebellion (disregard for the Torah/presuming to write their own law to suit them) was also the same as Adam's: want/hardship/struggle, assault by wild animals, estrangement from God, and exile from the Promised Land. As for sex: the first commandment God gave both animals and humans was, "Be fruitful and multiply". There's nothing sinful or rebellious about sex. There's only sin in FAKE sex (anything that tries to get the physical and psychological pleasures of sex while divorcing it from its purpose and meaning). But in the Bible, from first to last, sex is sacred and not to be profaned. It was created by God as a living allegory for His ultimate union with His covenant people. It is the first prophecy and is the only one given before the Fall, and it will be the last to be fulfilled, when - as of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb - "there will be no more marriage or giving in marriage, but all will be like the angels in heaven praising God." Christian divines and mystics have been saying this since the days of Christ Himself, and the Jews were saying much the same before that.
  • That is a very good question. Back in June 2006, "Awake!" Magazine had a nice article about this. Your answer is found in the Bible. Get your Bible and follow the sequence of scriptures here. Was the forbidden fruit sexual relations, as some have held? "This view finds no support in Scripture. For one thing, when God made the prohibition, Adam was alone and evidently remained that way for a while. (Genesis 2:23) Second, God told Adam and Eve to “be fruitful and become many and fill the earth.” (Genesis 1:28) Certainly, he would not command them to break his law and then sentence them to death for doing so! (1 John 4:8) Third, Eve partook of the fruit before Adam and later gave some to her husband. (Genesis 3:6) Clearly, the fruit was not sex".
  • It must be simple. everything is. tree of life = brain = conscience serpent = kundalini = spirit death = heart = body disobedience from head made God keep promise. choice. spirit of choice was lack of faith we are banished from most of our brain. imperfect. we cannot redeem our sins. many seek to try without Him. It is futile. how to get back to garden? faith. (to the best of our imperfect abilities) wanna know the fruit? does it matter? will He show you? when? God's will be done. Humbly wait. He will disclose Himself to those who honestly seek. He knows what you can take. suffer! suffer your thoughts and impulses. growth takes pain. Hurts to admit wrongs eh? but if someone knows specific physical dimension fruit. do tell. was it a knowsitallpectinle? taste like yum. make hallucinate.
  • It was fruit of the "tree of knowledge of good and evil". When Adam and Eve ate, they became aware that there is both good AND evil. They suddenly realized they had free will and did not have to kowtow to Jehovah. Thus sin entered the world. The serpent (Satan) had driven a wedge between humans and God.
  • I think it was rather inconsequential what fruit it was, since the fruit wasn't poisenous or something like that. I think if God had said ' do not eat apples' it would have had the same effect, yet we eat apples all the time. I think the only thing that gave them knowledge of good and evil was the fact they were disobedient. First they witnessed only good, and no evil, but they didn't KNOW it was good, since there was nothing else to compare it to. then when they sinned they became aware of evil, and they learned what it was. now they knew there was good and evil, since they had been disobedient.
  • Knowledge. The fruit of the Tree, of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Apparently learning is the greatest threat to God.
