In the upper right hand corner of answerbag, click on "View my profile and activity." Then, near the top of the page, click on "edit my profile/avatar."

Avatars are easy, just pick one from own collection of photos and upload it as your new avatar, it will be resized. Putting photos on your profile page is a bit more complicated, you need to use a third party website to host your pictures (Photo Bucket works for me), then use HTML code to position, size, and place your photo ... see my profile for an example ...
