  • Did you offer to help them do anything yourself? Did you offer to take a message or tell them the times when they could reach him? These are both things that I would appreciate if I were the customer. If the answer to BOTH these questions is no, then the answer to your question is most likely yes.
  • If your boss was simply avoiding having to deal with a customer and was, in fact, available then the poor customer service is on him and not you. As long as you were courteous and had done your best to help the customer, then you did not provide poor customer service. If you told the customer to go play in traffic, then that is another story entirely :)
  • No, you just lied to the customer.
  • No, your BOSS did. YOU just relayed the message.
  • You did what your boss wanted you to do - I'm sure he/she had their reasons - So No
  • This is really a problem with your boss: he should not be putting you in a position where you have to lie. You didn't sign up for that. The question is what to do about it? One thing worth considering is to have a talk with him, and tell him that you don't want to be put in that position -- that it's inconsistent with your values. If you don't feel like you can do that, that's OK -- you don't have to put your job on the line. But just be clear this is HIS problem, not yours.
  • you re being too hard on yourself, you did everything that you could.i m sure that that customer could see how much that you really did want to help him and he knows that its your bosses fault not yours.
  • Hey, don't shoot the messenger...lol
  • This happens to me all the time. I must find out 1) Who is it? 2) Where are they calling from? 3) What is this is regards to. Once, I provide my bosses with this information, then they decide whether they are "available" or not.
  • YOU didn't give the bad customer service- your boss did. Especially if it's a customer. I think I'm a little more heated about this topic than normal- today I had a customer service issue and the owner of the place (the only manager there) I went to wouldn't even get on the phone to talk to me- he just made me play phone tag with his receptionist. VERY unprofessional. But you only did what you were told- it isn't your fault.
  • Your boss is the guilty party, not you.
