Help answer this question below.
You pretty much can't do anything technical on Answerbag. It's one of the most clunky websites ever created. However, you can meet great people! The members are the ONLY REASON many of us are still here.
OK, I THINK I know what the issue is here.
First of all, the next time you answer a question, make sure the two boxes right above the "Submit" button are NOT checked before you click "Submit".
These boxes are labeled "Send me new answers to this question" and "Send me new questions in (name of catagory)"
If either of these boxes are checked when you click "Submit", you will add that item to your "my watch list". You will then get emails everytime someone posts new answers (or questions, for the catagory one).
After you've unchecked those boxes and submitted your answer, verify those boxes are STILL unchecked before you submit another answer. If they are still checked, then uncheck them again.
Now, go to your profile and look at your "my watch list". Edit the watch list to remove everything you don't want to be notified about. Then you will no longer receive any notifications for those items.
:):)
Now, if the problem is that you WANT to be notified of questions in a certain catagory but NOT some of the subcatagories within it, then what you need to do what I've outlined above. And then you need to go into the appropriate sub catagories you DO want to be notified of and add them to your watchlist, obviously excluding the ones you DON'T want.
Do you like to be a part of questions that inflame emotions? Or do you like to steer clear of them?

You're reading Can You somehow unsubscribe from a subcategory, without unsubscribing from the whole category?

What is a subcategory anyway?

@Sharona
A category, in a category.
.
@Beavis
It seems that way. E.g. I would like to stop receiving
those retarded "Religion" subcategory questions on the
"Latest Q&A", without blocking the whole "Life & Society"
category. But guess there is no way to do that.
Oh, well. I'll have to keep ignoring these and others.

Oh, I see now. Nope you can't.

AB is pretty much kludge as a website, but the people on here absolutely ROCK!!! and are the only reason I'm still here!

@Beavis
OK. You already said that.
Thanks for answering anyway.

Yep, but just one more time, in case any of the AB staff is listening, AB sucks as a website & only the users make it worth revisiting!
by Beavis - the other white meat on November 22nd, 2009
And you know what? The people on her absolutely ROCK. They are the only reason anyone is still here.
