Do batteries hold their charge longer if they are stored in the fridge?

Although my mother tends to think differently, no they do not hold their charge longer, not any longer than when stored in the fridge.

Mu dad always said so. Maybe it had more to do with older battery technology.

I think so, my great grandma always kept them in the fridge.
