i was in business for a long time. i had to spend money to make money. business cards, supplies, brochures, a nice car to make calls in, advertisements, taking clients out to lunch or dinner, buying gifts for my better and repeat customers. the list goes on and on and on. just have to make sure the money you spend is worth the investment. many times i spent money but didn't get a return.

Retail - you buy the product from the wholesaler only to sell it on to the customer at a profit. Real Estate - you need to buy the land to build on the land. Planes - You buy the plane to sell the plane (ie to passengers) ect ect

Example: you want to cut grass for a living. You need to spend money to purchase a lawnmower, gas, and oil. Perhaps you need to dig deep and buy a spark plug. You need to advertise locally - buy an ad space in your local paper. You want to be able to respond to client calls; keep your phone bill paid up. Your client is across town; you working transportation. So, you spend some money, you take care of the prerequisites, you work all day and come home to tally your earnings.
