I thought Borax was in the family of caustic substances like lye. If it doesn't catch fire it may burn a hole in the rug. A better alternative would be to sprinkle baking soda over the stain and rub it with a wet cloth till it forms a paste. Let it dry then vacuum it up. It will get rid of the urine smell.
If I remember correctly, borax reacts with uric acid.

You're reading Today i was cleaning cat pee and i decided that i would use borax (sodium tetraborate) and water i spread the solution on the carpet then went in with a ultraviolet to see were the stain was so i could brush then i noticed that the carpet was getting hot.
