They do, and it bothers me greatly. It defeats the purpose of Answerbag. It's a place to put all our answers together, not to judge people for their answers.

More and more users are using the down rate to "punish" other users they don't like. Many users think it is a valid way to show that they disagree with the answer. With the rules being made up by the users, maybe we will have to get used to this new meaning of downrating, since so many new users are coming on every day, and that seems to be the new rule.

Yes, it's happened with me a couple of times tonight for no apparent reason. Though I believe the rating system should be reserved to gauge the quality of an answer, it would be impossible to keep people from rating down for other reasons.

Yes, some users do do this. Like Yarnlady said, it is sort of a way to "punish" users they don't like.
