It has nothing at all to do with healthcare. It has only to do with the fact that they believe if it isn't based on capitalism, where the healthcare providers are in business to make a profit for their sharehoders, it isn't the American Way and, by definition, must be bad.

it's basic fearmongering. when you don't like something and you want to turn others away from it you start spreading rumors "it" is bad for some reason you think will convince the "others" to fear the thing in question. for example: peta fearmongers by claiming all fur producers torture and kill poor innocent animals. the truth is 1st, those animals would not exist without the fur industry breeding them, 2nd they are "put down" just as humanely as the united states government does convicted inmates on death row. and 3rd the animals in question are actually nuance animals for the most part and if you found them in your yard you'd pay to have them killed or removed. see the whole point of fearmongering is to twist the information in such a way as to influence people to agree with you. if you look close at the people who nay say socialized healthcare they fall into three categories. 1. people who gain by the current system (doctors, medical suppliers, etc) who fear loss of revenue 2. selfish/jealouse types who can't stand the idea of "poor" "illegal immogrents" or what ever "minority" they don't like, getting the same healthcare they do or fear they will recieve lesser care because of them, or that THEY will in someway be "paying for" them 3. the ignorant, people who see the band wagon and jump on, not knowing what the real issue is, where the "wagon" is going or what the risk/benefits of the questioned item are for them. these are the sheep who follow the herd right into the slaughter house simple because everyone else is going too.

in 1945, congress passed legislation permitting insurance monopoly (actually oligopoly). introducing competition will restore capitalism, not introduce socialism. they spend less AND HAVE LONGER LIVES AND BETTER HEALTH because they don't have greedy monopolists running private health insurance death panels while paying themselves hundreds of millions of dollars. baah humbug!!!
