Help answer this question below.
There are several programs you can download that will convert a word document into a PDF. A free one I'm aware of is
http://www.pdf995.com/
The website will guide you through the download and installation. Once it is installed, the 995 converter shows up as a printer on your print menu. So on the document you wish to convert, you go to "print" and select the 995. Rather than actually printing, that creates a PDF which you can then save.
Since the converter is free, you do have to sit through a popup ad each time you convert a document, but so what?
Hope this works out for you!

I use CutePDF Writer ( http://www.cutepdf.com/ ) myself.
No popup :)
Of course, if you are using OpenOffice then it's a moot point since OO can export to PDF directly.

I've been trying to get the powers that be at the office to let us try OO. Do you prefer it, Jerv?

I do. It does what I need it to do, handles every MS Office document I've needed to deal with, and it has the added bonus of price.
