  • Well you need to get it off. Is there a neighbor or friend that can help? You're supposed to be able to "smoke" them out by lighting a match & instantly putting it up to the tick after you put it out. The smoke & heat from the tip are supposed to do something. But if you can't reach it, I wouldn't reccommend you try it. Tweezers maybe? BTW - Get a back scratcher cause it's gunna itch like crazy for several days after it's out.
  • You're going to need to get some help if it's in a place you cant reach. If someone can help and this tick is STUCK to you the best thing is to light a match and then blow it out and while its still hot hold it up to it. The heat makes them immediately let go. However if it has buried its head in your skin (this happened to me once) make your you get ever bit of it out with tweezers because these things can cause lyme disease. If there is a red circle around where he was clinging draw a circle around it (right on where the redness ends) and if the next day the redness is further outside of the circle you drew go to the doctors because this is a sign of an infection.Good luck.
  • I hate to say this but if I were you I would go to the doc, only because they can get it out and get it tested for lyme. If you do decide not to go to the doc, save the tic and get it to your doc so they can test it. Lyme is on the rise. Better to be safe than sorry. A tic CAN survive without a body, meaning if you do not get the head out, it will contniue to grow. Having experience with them, I will NEVER mess around with them again!! Hubby had one on his belly, I thought I had the thing out and I didn't, The head was still inside and he ended up with a nasty infection.
  • The important thing about removing ticks is not to yank them out because you can leave the biting parts inside you that way. I appreciate you might not be able to do if it's on your own back, but this goes for someone else assisting you. You need to gently twist them round and pull lightly at the same time. If you have tweezers you can try using them but be careful not to chop the tick in half by squeezing too hard. I hope you get it out okay. I've been bitten by ticks in the past and I know it's not pleasant but usually it doesn't cause any lasting damage. You can get Lyme disease from an infected tick, but it's quite rare.
  • You should probably get to the ER and have it completely removed. The head can remain stuck to you even after you pulled off the body. I have a friend who has been diagnosed by a doctor with Lyme Disease after suffering a tick bite. This is very serious. Have a professional help you.
  • OMG DukeG..I have never even seen a tick..my friend once said her GS had one and it was massive..oh perhaps you need a vet..hahahaha!!!! Can't you just walk into the Dr's and ask them to remove it?..I would :D
  • If you can't find a neighbor to help then try to cover it with a blob of Vaseline, using a long shoehorn or a back scratcher or anything with a long handle. +5
  • Sorry I'm too far away to help, but thanks for a great tip with the Vaseline. Didn't know that. I've been bitten and I took it off with a match. Will know now how to do it right next time. :) Hope you get someone to help you remove it fast.
  • Take a big tub of Vasolina and spread it out on the floor in your bathroom. Lay on your back on the Vasoline and work yourself back and forth until your body is completely covered. Wait 5 minutes and reapply as necessary.
  • I have been bitten numerous times, primarily when I was a kid. Put a big glob of petroleum jelly on it / over it, and it should back off in a few minutes for air(supposedly). The main thing is to not leave part of it in you which is what will happen if you force it.
