If someone still has legal papers etc., it is considered theft if: You steal property worth under 300$. (Class 4 felony) You steal something from someone elses property without permission worth over 300$. (Class 2 Felony)

How do you know it's abandoned?
Nobody has stayed in it for 5 months. There are dogs outside in the backyard that the neighbors have called the humane society on because they are dying.
What's on that property probably belongs to either the last occupant(s) or a mortgage holder, so I agree with you.
Is there a sign on the property indicating or implying its status, such as a For Sale or foreclosure sign?
Move into it and claim squatters rights.

You're reading There is an abandoned trailer down the road from my house. Some friends of mine have suggested taking things from the furnished but abandoned property. I told them it's classified as looting, and theft. Is it? If so, is there a legal alternative?
